(James) This Great Northern Diver was only a few metres away from the causeway at Farmoor Reservoir, giving wonderful views. Unfortunately it dived frequently, moving further out, so I was only able to obtain a distant record shot.

(Simeon) Whooper Swans at Welney WWT and in fields nearby. Taken with Nokia N73 phone using 3.2 megapixal camera which has Zeiss optics! Well recomended...

(Simeon) Hooded Crow at Loch of Clickimin on Shetland Mainland. This bird had a funny habit of playing with a glass bottle. It pushed it, pecked it and clawed at it even though nothing was in the bottle. Perhaps it was just having fun!

Subalpine Warbler

(Connor) Dad recently had this Subalpine Warbler at Burnham Ovary Dunes.

(Simeon) I took these pictures of Little Egrets this morning whilst at Denver Sluice. There were three birds and they showed really well whilst fishing in the river. The tide was really low so there was loads of mud for them too. See the sightings for the other highlights... (22/7/07)

(Simeon) I took this photo of one of two Spotted Flycatchers nesting in our garden. Sadly, they have disappeared, but they may come back next year. I took the photo with James' Nikon as he had my camera with him on a Duke of Edinburgh expedition.

(Simeon) I took these photos of a young Swallow at Welney today. There were three birds and I could get about 1/2 a metre away from them when they were standing on the rails by the hide. 1/7/07

(Simeon) This male sparrowhawk flew into the net with its dead prey (female chaffinch) at Snettisham Coastal Park this morning. The first shot, of the tail, shows 3 different generations of feathers as the bird had moulted some. By the way, both the Sparrowhawk and the female Chaffinch already had rings on them. 28/4/07 I ringed 2 Willow Warblers, 2 Greenfinch, 2 Linnet, 2 Lesser Whitethroats and a lovely Sedge Warbler. I also held the Sparrowhawk (brilliant)!

(Simeon) I finally managed to get an alright picture of one of the Chiffchaffs at Whin Common this morning! 4/4/07

(Connor) Today myself and Simeon also watched this female Bullfinch being ringed at Snettisham Coastal Park.

(Connor) Today (31/3/07) myself and Simeon went to see the Red Breasted Geese at Snettisham RSPB. The birds showed well but distantly on a field south of the main RSPB pits. A Pale Bellied Brent Goose was also with the flock (cheers for that David!)

(Connor) This drake Green Winged Teal showed quite well at Titchwell RSPB on 30/3/07. Unfortunately it was very actively feeding and always had a strong sun back-light, making photography difficult.

Scotland Photos!

(Connor) These Waxwings at Holme NOA were a real surprise on 10/2/07 and showed well, a shame about the weather and light. The Lesser Yellowlegs (the middle picture) was reportedly still present on 10/2/07, the shot above was taken at the start of February.

(James) Forgot to take my camera to Holme (actually I deliberately didn't, forgetting about the lesser yellowlegs!), so I took a shot with Simeon's camera instead.

(Simeon) A weird Cormorant with loads of white on the neck at Denver Sluice. Taken on 20/1/07. Probably partially albinistic, although southern cormorant subspecies do have a lot of white on the neck and breast. (Connor) Had another go at the Lesser Yellowlegs at Thornham this afternoon (20/1/07) and this was the best shot.

Lesser Yellowlegs

(Connor) This Lesser Yellowlegs was a nice start to the year at Thornham Habour with 30 Twite as an added bonus.

(James) Canada goose and male hawfinch (finally!) at Lynford Arboretum. The record shot of hawfinch (1 of 18 individuals present) isn't very good, but the blurring actually makes an interesting artistic effect this time!

(James) Stonechat at Denver Sluice and Kestrel taken in evening light.

(James) Whooper swan at Welney - the swans come very close during the evening feed, but you need a fast shutter speed to get any results!

(Simeon) At last! I've got a photo good enough to put on the website! There just hasn't been anything good enough to take... still, it's only a male Goosander - alright, I surpose! 6/1/07

(James) Very dodgy shot of the whiskered tern at Titchwell. It didn't perch at all while we were there (except right at the back of the lagoon!) and it moved a bit too fast for me to get a decent photo, so I had to make do with a record shot.

(James) Two shots of the red-backed shrike at Stiffkey. Despite the bird being very close the wind made it quite difficult to get an absolutely crystal clear shot. The only one I got was just when the shrike turned away. Aaargghh!

(Connor) This is a picture of a Yellow Legged type gull taken at Rutland Water sometime in August 2005. On looking back on the photo I believe the bird could be a Caspian Gull because of the dark-looking iris and the shade of yellow on the legs (quite pale), although there does seem to be quite a lot of red on the bill. Comments and opinions much appreciated.

We actually went to see the hoopoe (but failed as usual!), and this was the first snake I had ever seen so it brightened up the trip.

(James) Two true albino blackbird chicks at a friend's garden in Downham Market showed very well and were not at all timid.

(Connor) Two male Ring Ouzels in the fading light were a nice way to end the day at Holme Marsh.

(Simeon) 23/4/06 Today I managed to get pictures of the Wrens but not the Robins, hopefully I will be able to soon. I targeted species I hadn't tried to get before so most of them are new. From the top; Wren, Starling, Chaffinch, Chaffinch, Blackbird.

(Simeon) As I was unable to visit any bird reserves today, I resorted to a bit of Garden Bird Photography (GBP). From the top: House Sparrow, House Sparrow, Pheasant, Greenfinch, Greenfinch and Collared Dove.
A pair of Pheasants have been viviting our garden regularly. My next targets are Robin and Wren. Wren should be easy, as they are nesting outside our window!

(Connor) This 'Pale Bellied' Brent Goose showed well at Gibraltar Point, shortly after seeing the Sora on 11/3/06. 'Pale Bellied' Brent Geese are far rarer than 'Dark Bellied' Brent Geese along the east coat.

(Connor) Yellow Legged Gull at Dogsthorpe Star Pit. Unfortunately it was distant but this shot clearly shows ring on right leg. This is not a Caspian Gulls as first thought. (See comments.)

I wanted a shot of them on the river, but stalking birds in the snow whilst wearing black clothing is not easy at the best of times, especially when standing on top of an embankment! Needless to say, they saw me before I got close enough, so this shot was the best I could do.

(James) This is a picture of a Dunlin at Titchwell RSPB..... taken with my phone! Phonescoping can be very handy if you have forgotten to bring your digital camera, and the quality really isn't that bad.

Siberian Stonechat at Llwyngwril, Wales

This male stonechat gave excellent views, posing on top of a stone wall. It then landed on a fence so close to us that unfortunately the camera couldn't focus in close enough to get a decent photo!
